They won their match against East Islip High School on Monday, and have one more game against Lindenhurst on Tuesday. The team hopes to build upon their success in the regular season and to compete in the division tournament this weekend and to team playoffs next week.

Coach Stephen Aronsen told Patch that he tributes the success to the team's many standout players, who continue to be more dedicated than ever.

They are "close-knit" and very "school spirited" he said.

"I think we've had good depths," said Aronsen. "There's just a lot of good chemistry within the group."

This year, the county switched their format from four singles players and three doubles teams to three singles teams and four doubles teams.

Despite the "kind of radical shift", the athletes have proven to be quite receptive to the change.

Certain notable players include double teams Meredith Albertelli and Kylie Person, double teams Kate Leigh-Manuell and Jordan Lucke-Manuell, and singles players Abby Breen and Gabby Binetti.

The team also has some of the school's top performing students, Aronsen said.

Albertelli, Person, and Breen, have played on the varsity team since they were in the seventh grade.

This is Aronsen's eighth season working with the team, and has seen the students grow into the athletes they are today.

The three were also mentioned in Newsday's "Top 30 Long Island Girls Tennis Players for Fall 2023."

"It has been six years since they've started varsity, so it's been a long journey," he said. " I'll definitely be missing them."
